Strategies to get the very best vacation property experience:

When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:

  • To get the best value, change your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Georgetown, SC area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have discounts for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select vacation dates and budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Bungalow at the Bay 3 Bedroom Vacation Home has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is optimal for your family.
  • Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.

More considerations:

  • Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your stay, record any problem areas during arrival. Call the host right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property a final time and look for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
