Tips to get the optimal Georgetown, SC rental home experience:
Get the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Summer is high season in the Georgetown, SC area. To get the best value, try changing your vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Georgetown, SC vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local Georgetown, SC visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Filter your rental search:
- To start, have your group agree to date ranges and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. DeBordieu Rental Island House beach just steps away from the beach has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before you reserve the property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
- Does your family require unique amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or charges could be applied to your invoice.
Additional considerations:
- Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Upon check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many issues.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would back home.
- On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to stimulate more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
